COAL: COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT PROJECT ELEMENTS
BUILDING PROJECT PARTNERSHIP WITH EXISTING ORGANIZATIONS AND GROUPS: COAL works in partnership with a wide range of existing community groups and institutions (civic, faith based, community, business and more) to create a project and exchange around vital issues connected to our relationship to the sources that sustain us. This approach is central to Littleglobe’s idea of art as transformational.
PROJECT FELLOWS-LOCAL VOICE: COAL reflects communities that it performs in through involving community members in planning, evaluation, and the personalization of flexible performance elements that integrate community voices into a global fabric. Each city will have 25 project fellows that work with the project planning six months prior to performance launch and six months after. The project will incorporate elements of local expression such as language, local food and other expressive forms. The act of reflecting a community’s expression back to itself is a powerful tool of transformation.
CREATIVE COMMUNITY WORKSHOPS: COAL is generative and evolving. Like a lego-set it will develop add-on elements through interactive media workshops. A media artist will work through project related workshops to integrate new elements into the piece to so that it is ever-evolving and community reflective. Each community responds to the crisis in the story and their responses are elevated through pre and post-performance activity and integrated into performances.
COMMUNITY DINNERS AND DIALOGUE: COAL knows that sharing of food and family engagement is central to community engagement. Each COAL performance will include the sharing of food and family-friendly formats as opposed to conventional theatre contexts and innovative dialogue stategies that values each voice equally.
WEB-STRATEGY/CROWD-SOURCING: COAL enables people to contribute from many locations through additive website interactivity allowing people to upload their own responses to the boy in the story so we grow our own collective resource bank.
MENTORING: COAL, based on Littleglobe’s commitment, will involve youth interns throughout the development and touring of the project.
