German-born artist Maureen Burdock’s work has consistently addressed social issues. She has shown work at the Center for Book Art in New York; Anti War Museum in Berlin, Germany; TAPP Gallery in Sydney, Australia; MECENAS Gallery in Juarez; Mexico, and Woman Made Gallery in Chicago, among others. Past projects include The Womb is a Bunker: Exploration of Cellular Memory, The Politics of Purification, and Collateral Damage. These works dealt with the ways in which war affects civilians, especially women and children. Maureen Burdock’s current work, The F Word Project: Five Feminist Fables for the Twenty-first Century incorporates engaging stories, social messages, strong female superheroines, humor, and contemporary artworks. She began this project in 2006, in response to the femicides in Juárez, Mexico. In 2008, Burdock won an award for her work on The F Word Project from Judy Chicago in the “Through the Flower for New Mexico Feminist Artists under Forty” competition.
