MOMENT sought to elevate the expressions of a small group of underrepresented people based in O’Connell Court sheltered housing through a collaborative, intergenerational, creative performance project. The project challenged conventional barriers between art production, community building and performance. Who performs, why, where, and for whom, are some of the concerns that informed this work.

Using a collaborative approach rather than a ‘helping’ model, the work is based upon the principle that all people are creative and that art making needs to be accessible to everyone. Each participant was and is seen as a collaborator that is capable of creating meaningful and relevant expressions.

MOMENT sought to facilitate

• an increased understanding of the experiences of older people and their caregivers

• a clear sense of ownership of the project by the participants

• a critical dialogue related to the connection between creative expression and health care

• the development of an innovative new performance work

• opportunities for the development of connections between people that may last beyond the duration of this project

• support for on-going creative work with the residents of O’Connell Court
