Crossings was a five-month performance project
with The Creative Center for Women With Cancer in partnership
with professional artists from the fields of choreography, set
design, music and media arts. Crossings sought to break down
barriers that exist between art production, healing processes,
and performance. Who performs, why, and for who are questions
that informed this work. While the experience of cancer linked
the participants, it was not the specific preconceived theme
of the piece. The result was the birth of an expressive community
that has continued to flourish beyond the dates of the initial
sold- out performances in June, 2001 at Judson Street Memorial
Church.
