Created by Molly Sturges, Salve is a musical response to Shirley Klinghoffer’s Love Armor Project. Salve is based upon interviews with returning veterans. Comprised of a series of compositions and improvisations, Salve investigates personal insights into the internal experiences of war and warriorship, and what it is to return to a previous life after such experiences. Salve is created as a means to witness the experiences and sacrifices of warriors and their families and the costs of war on all beings.
Performed by an intergenerational ensemble, Salve combines acoustic and electronic instruments and a small vocal ensemble.
Funded generously by the McCune Foundation.
Additional performances of Salve based on interviews with women veterans upcoming in March 2009 as part of the Women and Creativity Festival (National Hispanic Cultural Center). Performed by Linne Lalire, Lauren Camp, Valerie Martinez, Poppy Wilder, JA Deane, Alex Neville, Chris Jonas and Molly Sturges.
